Salat-ul-Hajat
(The prayer for needs صلاة قضاء الحاجة)
الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله وعلى آله وصحبه
Salat-ul-Hajat is a special means of asking Allah Almighty for one's fair worldly wishes and needs, as well as the otherworldly wishes. Rasool Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), most graciously, personally taught Salat-ul-Hajat to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). Therefore, when there is a problem or a pressing need for which there seems to be no solution, we must perform this prayer and seek Allah Almighty's help and mercy.
With His infinite mercy, Allah Almighty will create a way out and will fulfill our needs.
Method of Performing Salat ul Hajat
1. Perform ablution (wudu) first and as per the words of the relevant hadith perform it well.
2. Offer two rak'ats or four rak'ats Nawafil with niyah of Salat ul Hajat or Salat-ul-Qaza-ul-Hajat. Do it with calm, peace and humility.
3. After the salat, praise and glorify Allah Almighty i.e recite Tasbeehat (Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, Allah Akbar or the third kalima or Subhan Allah wa Behamdahe Subhan Allah Al-Azeem or recite any verses of the Holy Quran which are recited to praise and glorify Allah.
4. Then present blessings (salawat / darood) for the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
5. Then raise your hands for supplication (dua) and most humbly pray to Allah in following words (Arabic text of the supplication):-
6. In the second supplication (dua), when you come to the words of "Hajati Hadhihe", then present your need before Allah, that is, to mention or think of your need well. Ask for whatever you want in this world and the hereafter.
7. Conclude the du'aa 'with blessings and peace upon the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
8. The above supplication can be repeated as many times as you like in a single session (at least thrice is preferable).
9. Both of the above prayers can also be recited together in a single session.
10. Do not read translation of duas during Salat ul Hajat. We have written the translation here just for better understanding.

Opinions of the Jurists
The following ahaadeeth and a number of other ahaadeeth besides these indicate the legitimacy of the salat ul Hajat for a need and necessity - that is why the jurists of all four schools of thought (Fiqh) agree on its authenticity and legitimacy; and have declared this prayer as mustahab (desreable).
Number of rak'ahs
The jurists (imams) have differed on the rak'ats of salat ul hajat. According to the Hanafis it is four rak'ats, while according to the Maliki, Hanbali and Shafi'i jurists it is two rak'ats.
Yet, a third opinion is of Imam al-Ghazali, according to whom the prayer of need is twelve rak'ats.
Traditions (Ahadith) of Rasool Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about salat ul hajat

Translation
It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah ibn Abi Ofi that:
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Whoever has a need from Allaah or from one of His slaves, he should perform ablution very well, then perform two rak'ahs; and then he should praise Allah and send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah (i.e recite salawat / durood sharif) and then he should pray like this: “There is no god but Allah, the most Forbearing, the most Generous. Glory be to Allah, the Lord of the tremendous throne. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
I beg You (0 Allah) for everything that leads to your mercy, the means of your tremendous forgiveness, enrichment in all good, and freedom from all sin.
Do not leave a sin of mine (0 Allah), except that you forgive it, nor any sorrow except that you remove it, nor any need in which there is your good pleasure except that you fulfill it, 0 Most Merciful!

Imam Ahmad and other Imams narrated from 'Uthman ibn Haneef (may Allah be pleased with him) with a saheeh chain of transmission that a blind man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "Pray to Allah to grant me peace." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "If you wish, I will pray for you, and if you wish, I will postpone the prayer, and that is better for you". [The words of an other narration are: "And if you are patient, it is better for you."] The blind man said: " Pray (to Allah for me please)". The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) commanded him to perform ablution properly and then perform two rak'ahs of prayer, and then pray according to the following supplication: " O Allah! I ask You and I turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), who is the Prophet of Mercy. Ya Rasool Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon you)! through your intercesion, I approach my Lord in my this need so that it may be fulfilled. O Allah, accept the intercession of Rasool Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) for me. The narrator says: So, this person did so, then he healed from blindness.
Following the teachings of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to pray in the same way after two rak'ats for fulfillment of their needs.
Imam Ahmad has narrated a well-known hadith from Hazrat Abu Darda: "Whoever performs a complete ablution (wudu) well, then recites two rak'ahs, and after completing these rak'ahs, whatever he asks from Allah Almighty, Allah will give him that soon or with a little delay."
A hadith has been narrated by Imam Ahmad and Imam Ibn Majah from 'Uthman ibn Hanif in which there is a story of a troubled man. And in this hadith it is said that an angel told the man to perform ablution properly, , then recites two rak'ahs, and then to pray ( make dua).
And Abu Bakr ibn Abi Khaythamah has mentioned in his history with this addition: "If he has any need, he should do so."
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to turn to salat (namaz) in every time of trouble, As stated in a hadith: Hazrat Hudhaifah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: He would immediately arrange the salat (namaz) . (Abu Dawud and Musnad Ahmad)
Allaah says in His Holy Qur'aan: O you who believe! Seek help through patience and prayer. (Surat al-Baqarah 2) Allaah says: “I am with you if you keep up prayer.” (Sura Al Maida 12)
In addition to the five obligatory prayers, the Holy Prophet (sws) used to perform Tahajjud prayers, Ishraq prayers, Chasht prayers, Tahaya tul Wudoo and Tahaya tul Masjid prayers. And then on special occasions he used to make prayers the means of repentance and seeking forgiveness from his Lord. If there was a solar or lunar eclipse, they would visit the mosque. If there was an earthquake, wind or storm or even a strong wind, he would go to the mosque and engage in prayers. If it was a shortage of food or famine or any other trouble or distress, he would go to the mosque. If he returned from the journey, he would first go to the mosque and offer prayers. Therefore, besides the five obligatory prayers, we should also offer all such voluntary prayers.
Certainly, Allah's mercy and blessings will increase peace, contentment and tranquility in our lives.
