Government Authorises Clerics to Perform Spiritual Healing

DOHA-Qatar: Only those authorised by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs can perform “ruqyah”(urdu:damm), the masnoon Islamic spiritual healing. The Ministry has authorised nineteen clerics to perform ruqyah in Qatar.

“We want to regulate this practice and protect people from falling pray to soothsayers and fraudsters. Only those authorised by the Ministry can practice Ruqyah and that should be done in the way Islam has permitted,” said a minstery official.

In Saudi Arabia too there are registered and authorised healers only. Such measures will help firstly in revival of a permitted Islamic practice, long forgotten because of the negative campaignig against it by some newborn sects and ignorant secular groups. Secondly it will curb the tendency of unislamic practices among the muslim spiritual healers.
